Altitude and your body
The entrance sits at about 2,000 m and Long Lake at about 3,100 m. Most visitors feel fine, but it still helps to avoid strenuous activity and alcohol on arrival and to walk at an easy pace. If you have heart disease, high blood pressure or are pregnant, consult your doctor before travelling.
Weather and clothing
Mountain weather changes quickly and the day–night range is wide, so even in summer you need a jacket in the morning and evening. Wear light non-slip shoes and bring a thin jacket, rain gear and sun protection; in winter you need a down jacket, hat and gloves, and care on icy boardwalks.
Park rules
- No smoking and no open flame anywhere — this is a key forest-fire protection area.
- Do not enter the water, feed wildlife, pick plants or throw coins or stones into the lakes.
- Take your litter with you or use the sorted bins.
- Stay on the boardwalks, do not cross barriers and do not enter closed areas.
Other notes
Food inside the park is limited and pricey, so bring snacks and water. Mobile signal is weak on some stretches — download offline maps in advance, and carry a power bank and a little cash.
